A Kalman-Filter Approach to Equalization of CDMA Downlink Channels
نویسندگان
چکیده
An efficient method for equalization of downlink CDMA channels is presented. By describing the observed signal in terms of a state-space model, the method employs the Kalman filter (KF) to achieve an unbiased signal estimate satisfying the linear minimum mean-squared error (LMMSE) criterion. The state-space model is realized at the symbol and chip levels. With the symbollevel model, the KF is used to estimate the transmitted chips that correspond to each symbol interval; whereas at the chip level, the transmitted chips are estimated individually. The symbol-level KF has a built-in tracking capability that takes advantage of the a priori known scrambling sequence, which renders the transmitted signal nonstationary. The chip-level KF reduces the complexity of the symbol-level KF significantly by ignoring the nonstationarity introduced by scrambling. A simple method for further reducing the KF complexity is also presented. The computational complexity of the proposed technique is analyzed and compared with that of several linear approaches based on finite-impulse response (FIR) filtering. Simulations under realistic channel conditions are carried out which indicate that the KF-based approach is superior to FIR equalizers by 1–2dBs in error-rate performance.

Displacement Mimo Kalman Equalizer Architecture for Cdma Downlink in Fast Fading Channels
In this paper, we explore the displacement structure in a Kalman equalizer for MIMO-CDMA downlink. A streamlined MIMO Kalman equalizer architecture is proposed to extract the commonality in the data path by exploiting the displacement structure of the transition matrix and the block-Toeplitz structure of the channel matrix. Numerical matrix multiplications withO(F ) complexity are eliminated by...
متن کاملTwo Cross Coupled Kalman Filters for Joint Estimation of Mc-ds-cdma Fading Channels and Their Corresponding Autoregressive Parameters
This paper deals with the estimation and equalization of time−varying Rayleigh fading channels for synchronous Multi−Carrier Direct−Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (MC−DS−CDMA) systems. The approach we propose operates in three steps. Firstly, decorrelating filtering is carried out along each carrier to eliminate the Multiple Access Interference (MAI). Secondly, the fading channel respon...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of ZF Pre-Coder and Extended Joint Channel Estimation Method in Downlink CDMA with HPA
In the down link scenario of code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, multi user detectors (MUDs) such as linear de-correlating detector (LDDs) provide satisfactory symbol error rates (SERs) at the expense of much increased complexity, they require all active users’ spreading sequences, which is impractical from privacy point of view. To overcome this impracticality, a simple matched filte...
متن کاملOptimal Channel Equalization for MIMO Time-Varying Channels
We consider optimal channel equalization for MIMO (multi-input/multi-output) time-varying channels in the sense of MMSE (minimum mean-squared-error), where the observation noise can be non-stationary. We show that all ZF (zero-forcing) receivers can be parameterized in an affine form which eliminates completely the ISI (inter-symbol-interference), and optimal channel equalizers can be designed ...
متن کاملSampling of Sparse Channels with Common Support
The present paper proposes and studies an algorithm to estimate channels with a sparse common support (SCS). It is a generalization of the classical sampling of signals with Finite Rate of Innovation (FRI) [1] and thus called SCS-FRI. It is applicable to OFDM and WalshHadamard coded (CDMA downlink) communications since SCS-FRI is shown to work not only on contiguous DFT pilots but also uniforml...
